Acrylic Neon Signs: What Does “Acrylic” Actually Refer To?

An acrylic backboard and carved acrylic neon linework are different parts of a sign. Before comparing quotations, ask which part the supplier means by “acrylic”—and how the complete sign will be made.

1. Ask the supplier to name the part

If a quotation says only “acrylic LED neon sign,” you still need to know what forms the visible lettering and what supports it. An acrylic support panel can sit behind a different light-emitting material. Carved acrylic linework refers to acrylic shaped into the lettering or graphic itself.

These descriptions answer different questions. One describes the support; the other describes the visible linework. They are not two names for one universal construction.

Ask for a labelled drawing or written component list. You should be able to point to the lettering, its support and the lighting arrangement without having to infer them from the product name.

2. Separate three details in the proposal

Part to identify What to ask What the name alone cannot tell you
Visible lettering or linework What material forms it, and how is the approved artwork reproduced? The feasibility of every small detail at your size.
Backboard or frame What supports the parts, and what remains visible around or behind them? The mounting arrangement or finished overall depth.
Lighting and power What is included: lighting components, power supply, cable, switch or controller? Brightness, outdoor suitability or the supplied plug.

It is reasonable to request this information in a quote revision. Two offers cannot be compared fairly if one describes only the front appearance while the other specifies the complete configuration.

3. What we mean by carved acrylic linework

For RUOMEI’s carved acrylic neon direction, coloured acrylic sheet can be shaped by 3D carving to form the lines of the design. Our bulk custom neon work uses light boards made for the lettering or graphic; particular constructions may use LED strips at the side. The proposed arrangement needs to be confirmed for the actual project.

That is why we ask buyers to approve the design and configuration together. Choosing a colour or sending a front-view reference does not settle the backing, support or electrical details.

We also produce silicone LED neon and other custom neon sign types. The purpose of naming the construction is to make the offer clear, not to assume one material is best for every logo.

4. Review the front, side and support

The front view tells you how the lettering and symbols sit together. A side view shows how the visible parts relate to the support. A rear view helps you discuss fixing positions and cable routing. Request these views of the proposed construction or sample rather than assuming that every sign on a product page uses the same arrangement.

SideDepth and the relationship between parts.
RearSupport, mounting points and cable exit.

Tell us whether the sign will be wall-mounted, suspended or placed on a counter. RUOMEI can review mounting arrangements by project. A photographed stand or bracket should not be treated as included unless it appears in your agreed configuration.

5. Keep the use conditions separate from the material name

Do not use “acrylic” as a shortcut for outdoor use, a particular brightness or an electrical specification. For RUOMEI neon projects, outdoor use requires a separate waterproof construction review. We do not assign a fixed IP rating to the complete sign without the relevant testing.

Send the intended location and destination, then confirm the power supply, plug and any control requirements with the quotation. If you need a dimmer, remote control or colour-changing effect, state that need before the configuration is approved.

For a project where appearance is critical, a paid sample can be reviewed before a bulk order. Ask for a sample that represents the real size, lighting, mounting and packing requirements.

6. A clearer way to ask for your quotation

Instead of requesting “an acrylic sign like the photo,” say which visible features matter: the lettering shape, its colour, the space around it and how it will be displayed. If the construction is still undecided, ask us to explain the proposed parts in the quotation.

  • Send the logo artwork, intended size and quantity.
  • Identify the reference details that must be retained.
  • Describe the mounting position and any visible-support restrictions.
  • Ask what is included in the lighting, power and accessory configuration.

See our custom neon sign options for examples. Vector artwork is preferred for accurate neon pricing; an image can start an estimate, with the accurate price recalculated after the vector file is received.
