RUOMEI / BUYER’S GUIDE
Carved Acrylic Neon: Stroke Width and Material Thickness Are Different Measurements
When you ask for a thinner neon line, say whether you mean a narrower stroke from the front or less material depth from the side. Those requests change different parts of the specification. The acrylic plate used for carving, the backing and the complete sign depth also need separate descriptions.
Own product reference showing the linework from the front. The photograph does not measure stroke width, acrylic plate thickness or complete sign depth. Use the proposed drawing for those dimensions.
1. Name the direction you want to change
These are measurement definitions, not a construction drawing. If your note says “make it thinner,” mark the relevant part and view. A narrower letter stroke and a shallower complete sign are different requirements.
2. Read RUOMEI’s millimetre values by their purpose
| Published guidance | What it describes | What still needs approval |
|---|---|---|
| 5 mm minimum carved-acrylic stroke | The narrowest stroke guideline for artwork review. | Feasibility of the actual design at the finished size. |
| 6, 8 or 10 mm acrylic plate | Common plate thicknesses used for carved acrylic linework. | The plate selected for the proposed construction and its finished profile. |
| Backing thickness | A separate part of the support specification. | Its material and thickness for this product. |
| Complete sign depth | The overall assembled product dimension. | A drawing identifying the measured front and rear surfaces. |
The 5 mm value is not a plate-thickness option. The plate values do not establish the total sign depth or guarantee that every design works with every listed thickness.
Detail view of the same product, included to show the shaped linework. This is not a dimensioned section or a scale reference for the numerical guidance.
3. Review the stroke at the finished artwork size
Send vector artwork with the intended overall width and height. If the logo has very narrow parts, identify them for review. A large drawing viewed on screen can hide how small a stroke becomes when the complete sign is reduced.
Meeting the minimum stroke guideline alone is not approval of every curve, detail or connection in a design. RUOMEI reviews the actual artwork and construction. Do not simplify a brand feature to meet a number without showing the proposed change for approval.
4. Keep the backing and finished depth separate
If the sign must fit a shallow fixture, give the complete depth limit as its own requirement. Ask the proposal to identify the carved linework, backing and any other parts included in the overall dimension. Do not calculate the finished depth by adding familiar material numbers.
For a wall installation, also clarify whether your limit concerns the product itself or its final projection from the wall. The approved product dimension and the installation space need to describe the same arrangement.
5. Compare quotations with labelled dimensions
Two quotations that both mention “8 mm acrylic” may be describing different parts. Ask each supplier which part the number belongs to and request the relevant front or side view. Keep the artwork size and proposed configuration visible in the comparison.
A thicker plate is not, by itself, a measured promise of a brighter or stronger complete sign. Review any performance requirement with the actual proposed product instead of using material thickness as a shortcut.
6. Send artwork and dimension limits together
Send vector artwork where available, target overall size and quantity. Mark any stroke that must retain its shape, any plate preference and any complete-depth or installation limit. Leave unknown details open for review rather than giving one ambiguous thickness value.
Use our custom acrylic neon sign options as a starting point and send the requirements through the form below. Ask for each dimension to be named on the proposal before sampling.
