RUOMEI / BUYER’S GUIDE
Indoor vs. Outdoor LED Neon Signs: What Changes in the Specification?
Choose the use environment before approving a neon sign. An indoor logo design can be the starting point for an outdoor project, but its appearance does not prove that the complete sign is suitable outside.
Indoor product presentation. This photograph shows the appearance of the sign; it is not evidence of an outdoor installation or weather-protection rating.
1. Describe the exposure, not just the address
“For a restaurant” is not enough to choose the construction. A sign behind a dry interior counter, one near an open serving window and one on an exposed outside wall have different briefs. Tell us exactly where yours will sit.
Send a location photo and identify rain exposure, splashing or cleaning water, direct sun and any coastal or persistently humid conditions. If it sits under a canopy, show the sides as well as the cover. Treat the canopy as information for the review, not as permission to order an indoor sign.
Also give the intended daily operating hours and describe the space around the sign and power supply. These details help us review the configuration without guessing the conditions.
2. Compare the complete configurations
| Decision | Indoor brief | Outdoor brief |
|---|---|---|
| Use conditions | Confirm the actual interior location and any moisture exposure. | Describe exposure, shelter, sun and local conditions. |
| Sign construction | Review the proposed indoor configuration. | Review a construction prepared for the stated outdoor use. |
| Power and connections | Agree the supply location and connections. | Include every exposed part in the review. |
| Evidence | Check documents against the ordered configuration. | Confirm required tests and documents before approval. |
Outdoor should not be a word added to an otherwise unchanged quotation. The offer needs to describe the agreed use and the configuration supplied for it.
3. Acrylic or silicone does not settle outdoor suitability
RUOMEI produces carved acrylic neon linework and silicone neon options. Choosing the visible line material answers a design question. It does not, by itself, confirm the suitability of the complete assembly for an exposed location.
Our neon styles can be used indoors; outdoor use requires separately considered waterproof construction. We do not state a fixed IP rating for our complete neon signs because the complete signs have not undergone IP-rating testing.
If your specification requires a particular rating or report, send that requirement before approving the product. We need to review the actual configuration and any additional testing, cost and time. A competitor’s rating cannot be transferred to a RUOMEI quotation.
4. Include the power supply and connections
Mark where the power supply, controller if used, cable joints and sign will be located. Say which parts are indoors and which may be exposed. Ask the installer to review the proposed arrangement with the product configuration.
Do not use a front photograph of the illuminated letters as proof that hidden components suit the same environment. Ask for the relevant configuration details and for any supplied report to identify what it covers: a component, a sample sign or the ordered product.
RUOMEI checks existing report applicability against the project requirements. Where a new test is needed, the scope and schedule must be agreed separately.
5. Ask about your conditions, not an unlimited promise
Coastal air, humidity, strong sun and long daily operation should be stated in the brief. We can evaluate these projects, but we do not promise one configuration for every climate or make “never rusts” and “never fades” claims.
For a chain with both indoor and outdoor locations, separate the quantities by use environment. Keep the same logo where required, while allowing the proposed configuration to be reviewed for each group. Matching artwork does not require ignoring different conditions.
6. Send the design and the use conditions together
- Logo or artwork, intended size and quantity.
- Location photo and a clear indoor or outdoor description.
- Exposure, daily operating hours and planned component locations.
- Destination country and any required test documents.
You can start with incomplete information. Tell us what is undecided and we can identify what needs confirmation for your custom LED neon sign. Approve the final use conditions and configuration together before production.
