RUOMEI / BUYER’S GUIDE

Artwork for a Custom Neon Sign Quote: Is a Screenshot Enough?

A screenshot can start the conversation. For a more accurate neon sign quotation, send vector artwork, the intended size and quantity. The file and the physical sign still need to be reviewed together.

Real product photograph: separate lettering, symbols and colours all need to be identified in the artwork review. No brand partnership is implied.

1. What a screenshot can tell us

A screenshot helps identify the logo, wording and general appearance you want. Send the clearest version you have, without cutting off any part of the design. If it shows another sign, tell us which details are references and which details must match your own artwork.

At RUOMEI, an image can be used for an initial neon sign estimate. We recalculate the accurate price after receiving vector artwork. Include your intended size and quantity with the image so the estimate has a defined basis.

A screenshot does not confirm the original lettering paths, the exact dimensions or the structure behind the visible design. Those details should not be guessed from the photograph.

2. Why we ask for vector artwork

A raster image is made from pixels. Vector artwork describes shapes and paths, so its edges can be resized without the same pixelation. This distinction matters when a logo must be reviewed at the proposed finished size. Adobe explains the file difference here.

Ask your designer for the original editable logo artwork and a matching preview. Keep the original file unchanged. A PDF can be useful, but its filename alone does not establish whether it contains editable paths or just a placed image.

Clear vector paths help define the design. They do not, by themselves, prove that every fine line can be manufactured at every size.

3. Give the file a physical size

“Make it like this” leaves the scale open. Give the overall width and height, state the units and say whether those dimensions refer to the illuminated design or the complete sign including its backing or frame.

If only one dimension is fixed, identify it and ask for the other dimension to follow the approved proportions. Do not stretch the logo simply to fill both dimensions.

ArtworkWhat must be reproduced?
Finished sizeHow large is the complete sign?
QuantityHow many of each version?

List different sizes separately. One source file may be used for several versions, but the physical details still need checking for each version.

4. Mark the details you cannot change

Point out small lettering, narrow gaps, separate dots, fine strokes and symbols that matter to the brand. If a detail cannot be reproduced as requested, it is better to discuss the size or layout before approving the production drawing.

Our confirmed minimum stroke widths are 5 mm for carved acrylic and 6 mm for silicone, subject to review of the actual design. These are stroke-width references, not minimum letter heights or a promise that every logo will work at those values.

Send the colour references you already use and identify which parts should illuminate. A lit product photograph is useful for describing an effect; it should not be the only basis for approving a colour target.

5. Keep one identifiable approval version

A designer may send a revised logo after the purchasing team has requested a quote. Label each revision and tell us what changed. Do not send several files called “final” without identifying which one should be used.

Before production, review the final drawing and configuration together: wording, proportions, dimensions, lighting, mounting, cable exit and agreed power details. If the project includes several designs, record approval for each one.

Changes after approval can affect the work required. At RUOMEI, customer-requested changes to an approved design, size, material, colour target or function are reviewed for additional costs and confirmed in writing before proceeding.

6. What to send with your first inquiry

Only a screenshot The full image, size and quantity. Vector artwork for an accurate price.
An editable logo file The source artwork and a matching preview, size and quantity. Design feasibility and proposed configuration.
Several versions A clearly named file and quantity for each size/design. The approved drawing for each version.

You can also describe the intended use, destination and installation position. These help confirm the configuration; they do not need to stop an initial discussion if you are still deciding.

See our custom neon sign options, then use the inquiry form below to describe the files you have. If the form has no attachment field, mention that artwork is available and we can arrange how to receive it.
